Is that Kalani?

Why yes it is!

Famed Seattle culture photographer Charles Peterson has just published a new book called Cypher. The book is a collection of beautiful black and white images of break dancers and their world. Nightclub dance floors, high school gymnasiums, concert halls and arenas all play backdrops to these spirited youth dancing/contorting themselves to the adoration of there peers. And who is that on the cover you ask? It is none other then Hawaii's own Kalani Fujimori of Four Color Creative (who just so happens to be crashing on my couch after his recent move to NY). The photograph is from 2000ish when we used to throw a club night in cahoots with Circle of Fire, one of the best dance groups in the world. I haven't looked through the book yet, but there is a chance there could be a picture of me in there. Most likely I will not be dancing, but holding a drink in one hand as I put my fake ID back in the special place in my wallet. Those were the days. Charles Peterson is best known for his work capturing Seattle's Punk/Grunge music scene. Here are a couple from his book Touch Me I'm Sick. Amazing work.

I think I'm seeing a connection in the two bodies of work.
